LIBRARY

The YIH library collects scientific publications on yoga for health. The presumed physical and mental benefits of yoga are main drivers for attending a yoga course (1). Furthermore, recent evidence demonstrates that the practice of yoga can indeed improve a wide range of health conditions and theories about the neurophysiological mechanism underlying its functioning have been proposed (2). Though, despite the surge in the publications on yoga as a therapeutic intervention (3) and encouraging findings, heterogeneous effects of yoga have been observed and part of the studies suffers from poor methodological quality or suboptimal reporting standards. YIH promotes, on the one side, evidence-informed practice (EIP) for yoga teachers and yoga therapists, and on the other side, yoga research literacy for medical and paramedical personnel (4). For this reason, YIH seeks to make research evidence on yoga for health accessible and comprehensible. Concretely, some of the articles available in the library are supplemented by a short OVERVIEW, describing the limitations and strengths of the study and take-away messages, and when interesting a SUMMARY OF THE ARTICLE, including its methodology, analysis and conclusions, is provided. The aim is to support the reader in the interpretation and critical evaluation of the research literature in order to understand its relevance and to communicate to the beneficiaries, being them the patients or health policy makers(4).

WHAT CAN YOU FIND IN THE LIBRARY

YIH retrieves and publishes references and/or full text of primary literature (original research articles published in peer-reviewed journals) and secondary literature (systematic reviews and meta-analysis) about yoga for health and yoga as a public health intervention. References from the tertiary literature are also available but not commented (books, guidelines, viewpoints, etc.). The overviews and summaries of the research studies are written and peer-reviewed by YIH members and contributors holding a background in scientific research.
